Sunrise Mall Holiday Décor gets Help from San Juan High School
Citrus Heights, CA, November 17, 2009 – Sunrise Mall is pleased to announce a refurbishment of their holiday décor program, with a little help from students of nearby San Juan High School. “In light of the series of quiet but significant victories Sunrise Mall has experienced in the last year, we wanted to install a décor program above and beyond what we’ve had in the past,” said Sunrise Mall general manager Christi Woodards.
Decorating budgets for malls are not what they used to be, so the mall had to get creative if it was to enhance their existing décor. “Usually an outside company is hired to install our holiday decorations, but given the fact we wanted to update it a bit, we had to find other resources,” said Woodards.
After a bit of outreach, Sunrise Mall learned that nearby San Juan High School offered work and community service credit to its seniors for special projects. “Asking the students of San Juan High to help was a win-win for both the school and Sunrise Mall,” said Woodards.
The mall hired designer Jim Barbaley from Seattle, who came and spoke to the students in Mr. Fred Larsh’s construction and design class about the scope of work planned. Barbaley discerned what of the old holiday program could be used, purchased new elements that would compliment existing pieces, and laid out a preparation and installation schedule.
“The completed vision is an elegant take on a traditional commercial holiday display,” said Barbaley. “We used over 10,000 holiday lights, thirty hanging finials, ten 8’ holiday trees, 100 feet of garland, 400 artificial white poinsettias, and 20 San Juan High School students.”
“We’re just delighted with the result,” Woodards said. “This year’s holiday décor at Sunrise Mall is a tribute not only to making the most of what you have, but the value of helping one another in a community. These students contributed to how gorgeous their mall is this year.”
