Sacramento, Calif. (February 14, 2012) –With seventh pick in the first round of the WTT Marquee Draft, the Sacramento Capitals protected top American and world No. 8 Mardy Fish to play for the team in the 2012 season of the WTT Pro League presented by GEICO.
The Capitals will return for a second consecutive year to the Sunrise MarketPlace Stadium at Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights as part of a renewed stadium naming rights sponsorship with the business improvement district.
Currently ranked eighth in the ATP World Tour singles rankings, Fish won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011 in Atlanta, as well as making the finals in Montreal and Los Angeles. Fish’s career highlights also include a Silver Medal in the 2002 Beijing Olympics. He has won six singles titles and eight doubles titles on the ATP Tour, and is a seven-time U.S. Davis Cup team member. After being drafted by the Capitals in 2011, Fish was unable to play in Sacramento last season due to injury. “We are very pleased to bring Mardy to Sacramento for two matches this season,” said Capitals General Manager Matt McEvoy. “It’s exciting for us to bring one of the best players in the world to our community.”
Former world No. 8 and popular Australian player Mark Philippoussis, who was drafted by the Philadelphia Freedoms, will also make a visit to Sacramento to play a match against the Capitals. With 14 ATP titles under his belt, Philippoussis is best known for his dominating serve measuring up to 142 miles per hour. In another featured marquee visit,former world No.1 Lindsay Davenport will return to Sacramento - the city where she was first drafted to play World TeamTennis . A native of the Los Angeles area, Davenport will be playing this season for the Orange County Breakers and will play at least one match in Sacramento.
The team is in negotiations to re-sign members of its roster team from last year, which included former world No. 1 in doubles and WTT veteran Mark Knowles, 2011 Grand Slam champion Vania King and others in the roster draft next month..

The 37th season of the World TeamTennis Pro League presented by GEICO begins on Monday, July 9th through July 28th in 9 U.S. markets, with the WTT Conference Championships set for September 13-15 and the WTT Finals presented by GEICO on September 16th.
Team rosters will be completed on Monday, March 12, when the 2012 WTT Roster Player Draft is conducted. With WTT’s gender-balanced team concept, each team is comprised of two men, two women and a coach. Team matches consist of five events, with one set each of men"s singles, women"s singles, men"s doubles, women"s doubles and mixed doubles.
