Six Time Champions One of the Most Successful Franchises in World TeamTennis

(Sacramento, CA) – The Sacramento Capitals will be celebrating their 27th consecutive year in Sacramento when the team opens the season on the road against the Boston Lobsters on July 9. As one of only two remaining professional sports teams in Sacramento, the Capitals have managed to weather poor economic conditions, ownership changes, and changes of venue during their tenure. Today, the Capitals are one of the most successful franchises in the World TeamTennis (WTT) having won six WTT championships.

"Maintaining a professional sports team under any condition is difficult. The fact that the Capitals have been able to bring professional tennis to Sacramento for 27 consecutive years is a significant accomplishment,” said the Capital’s managing general partner, Ramey Osborne.

“We’ve had the support of incredible fans over the years. Not just the tennis community, but the entire Sacramento region. World TeamTennis is not only for tennis enthusiasts. The fast-paced, action-packed format is great fun for the whole family,” Osborne added.

This year’s team includes a standout group of talent that includes Mardy Fish, who is currently ranked the No. 12 singles player in the world; former World No. 1 doubles player and team captain, Mark Knowles; ATP singles title holder, Ryan Sweeting; current No. 31 ranked singles player and ATP World Tour Title Holder, Kevin Anderson; Coco Vandeweghe; UCLA All-American and Sacramento native, Yasmin Schnack; and UCLA standout, Asia Muhammad.

In addition, Wayne Bryan will return for his 11th consecutive season as coach of the Capitals. Bryan has been honored as the WTT Coach of the Year three times and has directed the Capitals to championship seasons in 2002 and 2007.

“Not only does Coach Bryan bring the best out of his players, but he is such an ambassador for the game. He"s one of the best coaches in the world and he is an integral part of our goal to have the best team on and off the court," Osborne said.

Bryan is a frequent national speaker and clinician, as well as the author of "The Formula, Raising Your Child to be a Champion in Athletics, Arts and Academics." He was named one of the “35 Most Powerful People in Tennis” by Racquet Magazine and has received a variety of awards and accolades in the sport. Bryan played collegiate tennis at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He began coaching in the WTT in 1999 as coach of the Idaho Sneakers.
