Aerial Fireworks Display Retired After 14 Years

Posted

Sunrise Mall has retired the aerial Fireworks Display after 14 years, as it is no longer affordable to host the fireworks display, especially in this struggling economy which has been challenging for all, retailers especially.   Additionally, the fireworks display is also a serious drain on City and Police resources, which are already stretched thin due to the prison system restructuring and the early release of offenders into our communities.

“This was a difficult decision for Sunrise Mall and Sunrise MarketPlace and we have spent the past month going to all the City"s Neighborhood Association meetings to inform the residents that the fireworks have been retired, to gain their support and understanding, and to help spread the word to their friends and neighbors, many of whom work or own a business in the District” said Christi Woodards, General Manager of Sunrise Mall.  “Also, knowing that we would no longer be approved to host the fireworks on-site once we finalize our plans to develop pad sites along Sunrise and Greenback Boulevards, we believed this would be an appropriate year to retire the fireworks now that the Sacramento Capitals and the Sunrise MarketPlace Business Improvement District are bringing entertainment and activity to Sunrise Mall and the Citrus Heights community.”

The Sunrise Mall will be the host site for the stadium which is paid for by the Sunrise MarketPlace for the Capitals World Team Tennis matches in July, and the Sunrise At Night Concert Series in August and September.  The goals of these events are to break-even with the cost of the tickets paying for the entertainment and venue.   “It is important that as all our budgets dwindle, we find creative ways to still encourage visits to the SMP District and businesses, as it is the sales tax revenue generated by shoppers in the District that ensures the City"s ability to support Police, street improvements and a better quality of life for its residents,” stated Kathilynn Carpenter, Executive Director, Sunrise MarketPlace.   “With over 400 businesses located at Sunrise Mall and Sunrise MarketPlace, we provide thousands of jobs and business opportunities within the 10-block district and it is the mandate of the Sunrise MarketPlace to continue to ensure economic growth and prosperity for our businesses, which the Capitals World Team Tennis and the Concert Series will definitely provide for all. ”
